Summer at the Lakes, Kendal Coach Holiday
The Riverside Hotel, a converted 18th century Tannery set on 5 floors, is situated on the banks of the river Kent in Kendal beneath the ruins of the town's 12th century castle. A short walk away is the centre of this famous market town with its bustling shops, galleries and museums.
We travel north to Kendal, with a comfort stop in Pontefract, Once known as the key to the north, Pontefract is now a thriving market town with many stories to tell. From horse racing and secret ballots to King Richard II and liquorice roots, there's plenty to discover. You should arrive at your hotel with plenty of time to relax before your evening meal.
Today we travel from our hotel to take a ride on the Ravenglass Railway, we journey from Ravenglass, the only coastal village in the Lake District National Park, across the estuary, through the hills, past seven request stops with a 1;40 gradient at times, on route to our final destination some seven miles up the line to Dalegarth for Boot Station. This afternoon your driver will take you on a scenic tour of the Lake District National Park before returning to your hotel.
This morning we travel to Windermere for a 45 min cruise on the lake, Windermere, at 10.5 miles long, one mile wide and 220 feet deep, is the largest natural lake in England, and is fed by numerous rivers. The Romans built their fort of Galava at its northern end (waterhead), and it has always been in important waterway for movement of heavy materials. Sit down, relax and watch the world go by while you take in the stunning scenery. This afternoon we have put aside for you to enjoy Kendal, Kendal will surprise you, it's no ordinary market town. The streets are alive with arts, events and culture., packed with intriguing history and renowned for great shopping. The green spaces, woodland path and spectacular surrounding fells give every visitor a sense of adventure.
After breakfast your driver will take you to Blackpool, Dance the day away in the Tower Ballroom or enjoy an ice cream on the beach. Blackpool is the destination to suit all.
We sadly depart the hotel for our return journey to Lincolnshire, with comfort stops enroute.
