We travel to Skipton with a stop on the way at the popular Yorkshire Wildlife park. Walk through the interactive animal habitats and find your favourite animal. Mine is the Polar Bear. What a majestic animal, and so graceful as it swims in the large enclosure. We should arrive at the hotel with time to relax before your evening meal.
Tuesday
After a relaxing breakfast join your driver for a visit to the Wensleydale Creamery. This interactive experience will take you on a journey in the art of cheese-making, from monastic times through the centuries to today. It also includes the opportunity to watch Yorkshire Wensleydale cheese being handcrafted by our team of master cheese-makers in our Creamery from our Viewing Gallery, plus 'behind the scenes' footage too!
Wednesday
Today is set aside for you to visit Skipton for the popular market. If you like a bargain, love finding those treasures you don't get on the high street, partial to some delicious local produce or just love the atmosphere of a market in full swing, Skipton Market is for you. 4 days a week, traders arrive in the town centre and set up stalls along each side of the wide High Street. And they bring with them everything from cheeses to scarves, local meat to arts & crafts, shoes & boots to Yorkshire made blankets. Each day varies, and there is a rotating set of traders, meaning no day is quite the same. You could also visit the Castle. (please be aware that the castle floor and steps are uneven and not suitable for visitors with mobility issues)
Thursday
This morning we take a trip on the Ribble railway. Visit the Ribble Steam Railway for heritage train rides along the line. The three mile return trip includes crossing the dock swing bridge (a unique feature on this line) and then along the bank of the River Ribble, giving interesting views of the City of Preston. There is also a fantastic museum. The museum houses one of the largest collections in the country under one roof. Many locomotives and vehicles that have been restored by the dedicated volunteers on site. They'll show the different types of locomotives and tell you their unique story's. With interesting facts about their past lives, to where they were built and the industries that they worked in. Your Yorkshire experience continues this evening with a bespoke experience in the hotel. Get your flat caps on (provided) and enjoy your evening meal served with a Yorkshire twist, I have to say the Yorkshire puddings are the best I have ever tasted and I am a Yorkshire girl myself.
Friday
We travel back to Lincolnshire today with a stop in Pontefract on the way. Located in the heart of West Yorkshire, this historic market town is home to the picturesque ruins of one of England's most important castles (once known as "The Key To The North") as well as a brace of beautiful parks, some outstanding examples of Georgian architecture, and a whole host of independent boutiques and coffee shops. Pontefract's got history galore - the site of the first secret ballot, this is a place where the country's fate was decided more than once; uncover its story at Pontefract Museum. Sports fans take note - the town is also home to Pontefract Racecourse, the longest continuous flat racing circuit in Europe.
Rendezvouz Hotel***
There are many hotels in Yorkshire. It's a big county after all, famous for its magnificent Yorkshire Dales, the Bronte Sisters, cheese, real ale, steam trains and cycling. It's also famous for its people, straight-talking people who tell it how it is. So when Karen tells you that she is 'reyt proud' of the hotel, proud of thier staff, and the best of Yorkshire hospitality that they offer, you know that they are talking from the heart. They're also proud of our location, alongside the famous Leeds Liverpool Canal, and less than a mile from the centre of the delightful market town of Skipton, the 'Gateway to the Dales'.
