Highlighting the best of the Cotswolds on a 5 day tour

Book Now

The Cotswolds are about 25 miles across and 90 miles long, cross six English counties and stretch from just south of historic Stratford-upon-Avon to beautiful Bath. During the Middle Ages the area became prosperous from the lucrative wool trade which is why you'll find so many beautiful churches and manor houses. Hardly surprising then so many Cotswold locations have featured in TV programmes and films - most recently Poldark, Downton Abbey and the Harry Potter films.

A friendly welcome awaits you as you board the coach for a trip into the Cotswolds. Your driver will arrange comfort stops on the way and you should arrive at the hotel with time to settle in before your evening meal.

Something a little different is on the cards for today, a trip to Sezincote. After winding through the mighty oaks that line the long drive of this Gloucestershire garden on the edge of the Cotswolds, you see a weathered-copper onion dome straight out of India. The south front, complete with curving orangery, unfurls above a Repton landscape that has remained unchanged since the mid-19th century. The garden is blessed by a series of spring-fed pools, connected by gurgling water which eventually tumbles into the Island Pool in the valley bottom, before joining the River Evenlode below. We have included a private guided tour of the house and a free flow visit to the gardens for your pleasure.

After breakfast we take a trip into Oxford, Legend has it that Oxford was started by a beautiful and pious young princess named Frideswide. When her dream of becoming a nun was threatened by a king who wanted to marry her, Frideswide ran away to Oxford. The king followed her, but when he reached the town boundaries, he was struck blind. After begging her forgiveness and reluctantly agreeing to give her freedom from marrying him, his sight was amazingly restored. Frideswide went on to set up a nunnery on the site of what is now Christ Church cathedral. The earliest built colleges were set up around the nunnery as learning places for monastic scholars. This afternoon please join your driver for a visit to Cogges Manor Farm, A beautifully preserved collection of Cotswold stone buildings set in its own grounds and the location of many films and TV programmes such as Downtown Abbey and Countryfile. We have included an informative guided tour about the filming at Cogges and the history of the farmstead for those who lived and worked there with Tea or coffee with a slice of cake for you to enjoy.

Bath is our destination for a full day of leisure. You won't have to look far to find things to do in Bath as the city is famously full of attractions and activities. In many ways, Bath hasn't changed much since the times of Georgian gentleman Ralph Allen and writer Jane Austen, both of whom fell under the spell of this city built for pleasure.

We say a fond goodbye to our hosts as we travel back to Lincolnshire, with a stop in Stratford upon Avon on the way.
