Named after Thomas Telford the renowned civil engineer, Telford's gleaming buildings and hi tech businesses mark it out as a town for the future. One of the UK's fastest growing and most successful new towns - it contrasts with its historic neighbour Ironbridge the birthplace of the Industrial Revolution.

An early departure begins your adventure. Join your friendly driver on your journey to the hotel. On the way we will stop at Kidderminster and board the Severn Valley Railway to Bridgenorth. Your coach will be waiting to take you on to the hotel with time to settle in before your evening meal.

Today we visit the neighbouring town of Ironbridge. A World Heritage Site and the beating heart of the Industrial Revolution, the Ironbridge Gorge is home to some amazing museums that make for an unforgettable experience. In 1786 the Quaker ironmaster William Reynolds tried to connect the Blists Hill mines with the River Severn by tunnelling horizontally through the hill from Coalport. In doing so he discovered a natural source of bitumen which may today be visited as the Tar Tunnel. This period also saw the construction of the Shropshire Canal through the Blists Hill site, and in 1793 the spectacular 305m (1,000ft) long Hay Inclined Plane. Reynolds' revolutionary engineering linked existing mines and ironworks in the area to the transport system of the river, and opened up Blists Hill to further expansion. The Madeley Wood Company built three blast furnaces here, replacing the riverside Bedlam Furnaces. For the rest of the story you can visit the museums which tell the most fascinating story of technology and development in the engineering world.

After breakfast we travel into Shrewsbury . Full of higgledy-piggledy streets with names you want to say out loud with mix of the very old and the very new. This beautiful town makes you want to explore what is around the corner.

Today we travel to Dudley to visit the Black Country Living museum. The award-winning corner of the West Midlands is now one of the finest and largest open-air museums in the United Kingdom. After very humble beginnings, a bright idea and 40 years of inspiration, this is twenty six acres worth exploring. Amazing as it may seem, they have created a 'place' - a real and lively place, where once there was nothing and nobody. With a village and charismatic residents to chat with. Trams to ride. Games to play. Things being made. Stories to hear. People - their triumphs to admire and troubles to be thankful that are not ours. Time to be well spent.
