On this five-night cruise, you can explore the delights of the Netherlands, where the Dutch capital is also famous for its network of canals, which can be explored by boat, or discover the city and its surrounding countryside by bike. Rotterdam is ideally placed for visiting nearby Kinderdijk, with its iconic windmills built to protect the land from flooding. You'll also have plnety of opportunities to sample local cuisine, like Stroopwaffels, Bitterballen, and its renowned cheeses of Gouda and Edam. In each destination, you can gain an insight into the local art scene, from uncovering the works of Rembrandt and Van Gogh to visiting the Royal Delft pottery factory to watch artists demonstrate their hand-painting techniques.

CRUISING NORTH SEA CANAL

The North Sea Canal (or Noordzeekanaal) is Amsterdam's direct link to the North Sea and is one of the country's busiest and most important shipping lanes. Despite its industrial importance, there's a lot more to this winding waterway than just container ships. Along the banks of the 16-mile-long canal - from the mouth at Ijmuiden, to the end in Amsterdam - there are an abundance of interesting fortifications from World War Two, huge power plants, beaches and nature reserves.

Sunday 4th

AMSTERDAM

A city of canals and bikes, historic Amsterdam is a network of waterways lined with elegant merchant homes, museums and friendly cafés. The iconic Canal Ring is best explored by glass-topped boat, passing significant monuments and seeing the city from a different perspective; or the poignant Anne Frank House, where Anne and her family hid from the Germans during the Second World War.

Monday 5th

ROTTERDAM

The words innovative and inspiring sum up Rotterdam, a major port in the Dutch province of South Holland. The Netherlands' second largest city, Rotterdam has a diverse community, a captivating maritime history, and an abundance of excellent museums. When you arrive, you will find the city is an exhibition of futuristic architecture, an achievement even more remarkable considering Rotterdam was destroyed during World War II.

Arrive Newcastle early morning where your coach driver will be waiting to take you home to Lincolnshire.
